Mary Elizabeth Beasley

Birth Date: 06/16/1937
Deceased Date: 02/22/2025

Mary Elizabeth Barbour Beasley, or better known as Mary B, Momma, Grandmama, Crazy Mary, Mrs. Mary, and more to her family, friends, and fan club, passed away at her home at 87 years old on Saturday, February 22. Born in Angier, she moved to Erwin as a child when her parents began working at Erwin Mills. She had several jobs through the years, often sharing stories of working at the Rose’s Dime Store, substitute teaching at Erwin School, bookkeeping for Beasley’s Garage, and working the polls during election season. She loved nothing more than a home cooked meal that she did not make, but nothing could beat a goodie. You would often find her watching the news, on the phone talking with friends, playing cards, or hanging out with her grandchildren.

She was rarely seen without her carefully selected jewelry that was either a gift from her “Junior Honey” or something she treated herself to – she was the queen of special treats. She loved being surrounded by people, and often provided the entertainment whether she realized it or not. Her TV was always on the news or a movie channel and she never quite knew what was going on but could tell you a really good story about every other word she did pay attention to. Her ramblings and unsolicited advice will be missed by all.

She is survived by her sister, Sammy Jean and husband Jim Bradley, children Mike and Laurie, and their spouses Sandra and Craig, her grandchildren, Ellen, Jake and “his little wife” Hannah, and Samantha, granddog Hayley, bonus granddaughter Taylor, bonus great grandchildren Maelyn and Brier, a plethora of great granddogs, many great nieces and nephews, and a large fan club.

She was preceded in death by her husband James Archie Beasley, Jr., brothers James Paul and Jimmy Barbour, and her dearest friends.

The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to her team of caregivers who have spent time caring for her the past two years. Betty, Gloria, Christine, Anne, and Dollie, she loved y’all and we appreciate all of the love you gave to her.

The funeral will be Tuesday, March 4, at 2:00 p.m. at Erwin Methodist Church. She loved sassy pants, a matching set, and colors, dress accordingly. In lieu of flowers, consider donating to Erwin Methodist Church, or to a cause you find important to you in Western N.C. for hurricane relief. An avid watcher of the news and weather, she would have been devastated to know what happened to her home state and flowers would “leave a mess to clean up” somehow anyways.

Dunn Funeral Home of Erwin is honored to serve the Mary Elizabeth Beasley family.
