Yvonne Robertha Nicholas

Yvonne Robertha Nicholas, age 78, passed away on Wednesday, October 15, 2025, at UNC Chapel Hill Hospital, surrounded by her loving family. Born on April 7, 1947, in Diamond Village, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, she was the daughter of the late Bertie Latham and Agatha David.
After her parents migrated to Trinidad and Tobago, she was lovingly raised by her paternal great-aunt, Ethel Allan, better known as Day-day. During her early years, she was given the nickname Ian, a name still affectionately used by many from her hometown. Yvonne is preceded in death by her loving husband, Levi Nicholas, uncle Reginald David and aunt Venus Latham Sheppard; and friends; Octavia Crick, Sheila Edwards and Jemma Francis.
In July of 1962, she reunited with her parents to begin a new chapter in Trinidad and Tobago. On April 15, 1967, she married Levi Nicholas. Together, they built a life rooted in love, family, and faith. Yvonne was the proud mother of four children and two stepchildren.
In 1991, Yvonne immigrated to the United States and settled in Brooklyn, New York. There, she worked in various roles, including home health aide, babysitter, baby nurse, and homemaker. Yvonne was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses on July 20, 2013, and remained active in the ministry, sharing the good news of God’s Kingdom with joy and conviction.
In 2014, she joined her youngest daughter in North Carolina, where she continued to enjoy family life and spiritual fellowship. She built lasting friendships and shared a deep bond with her spiritual brothers and sisters, connections that brought her joy, comfort, and a true sense of belonging.
Yvonne brought joy and comfort to those around her through her love of cooking, dancing, and her generous heart. She was a strong, independent woman, kind, and full of life. Her presence left a lasting impression, and those who knew her will carry cherished memories of her warmth, resilience, and unwavering love. She loved traveling and going on cruises with her friends and family, creating joyful memories that will be treasured.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, October 31, 2025, at 12:00 p.m. in the chapel at Parrish Funeral Home. The family will receive visitors one hour prior to the service, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Burial will follow in Selma Memorial Gardens.
Yvonne is survived by her sons, Stephen Nicholas and John Nicholas; daughters, Virginia Devenish (husband, Jeffrey) and Hazel Nicholas-Ransome (husband, Deon); grandchildren, Jefferson Devenish, Raheem Zwade Devenish, Chelsea Robertha Nicholas, and Brian Ainsworth O’Neil; great-grandchildren, Josiah Devenish, Kaylee Gulston Devenish, and Janiyah Devenish; stepchildren, Lavita Guadeloupe (husband, Michael) and Selwyn Cato; step-grandchildren, Keston Guadeloupe, Kerron Guadeloupe, Kemmon Guadeloupe, Kwasi Guadeloupe, Mikkel Ransome, Selisha France, Abisha France, and Kelwyn Charles; sister-in-law, Pandora Byron; brother-in-law, Phillip Nickie; cousins, Nell Cupid, Henrietta Latham, Cecile Billy, Roland Cupid, Jemma Cupid, Carl Williams, and many others; only surviving aunt Keitha Duncan Spencer; relatives, Latham, Allan, Jack, David, Cupid, Soso, Spencer, Lewis, Rose, Nedd, Nickie and Browne families; friends, Leotha Gilbert, Gloria Gumbs, Esther Diaz, Charmaine Pope, Meryl Munroe, Lovet Bailey, Arreminta Nesbit (Titti), Marilyn Scope, Cassiya Butler, Lenora Roach (Lola), and many others; and neighbors, Afrose Ali, Virginia (Vicky) Martin, and the George Family.
