Coats, NC: Mrs. Carolyn Stewart Penny Messer, age 78, of Delma Grimes Road passed away on Saturday, October 31, 2020 at Wake Medical Center in Raleigh. Funeral Services will be 11:00AM-Wednesday, November 4, 2020 at Coats Baptist Church in Coats. Revs. Neal Thornton, Jesse Mooney and Glenn McCullen will officiate. Burial will follow in Coats City Cemetery.
Mrs. Messer was born on October 18, 1942 in Durham County to the late Jamie Stewart and Ruby Beasley Penny. She was preceded in death by an infant sister, Peggy Lynn Penny. Mrs. Messer retired from Harnett County Schools as a secretary and was also homemaker. She was a member of Coats Baptist Church where she served in many capacities.
Surviving include her husband of 60 years, Billy Ray Messer; sons, Michael Messer and wife, Roberta of Coats and Mickey Messer and wife, April of Angier; grandchildren, Brittany Chestnut and husband, Bradley, Courtney Barefoot and husband, Jonathan, Ryan Messer, Morgan Messer, Macy Messer, Matthew Messer and Ally Messer; great-grandchildren, Adaleigh Chestnut and Luke Barefoot; brother, Andy Mack Penny and wife, Denise of Angier; many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 9:45AM-10:45AM, Wednesday, November 4, 2020 prior to the service in the church sanctuary of Coats Baptist Church.
In accordance with NC-COVID-19 guidelines, the funeral home suggests practicing social distancing guidelines and the three W’s: wait, wash, and wear a face covering.
