Pellet Gun Fired In Direction Of Students And Parents At Bus Stop, Police Say

CLAYTON – Clayton Police are investigating an incident at a bus stop. Around 8:00am Wednesday, police were dispatched to Bent Branch Loop.

Police Chief Greg Tart said officers learned from witnesses that around 7:35am, a vehicle drove by with two young white males inside. Chief Tart said the passenger reportedly fired a “black and orange colored Orbeez type gel ball pellet gun” three times in the direction of parents and children standing at the bus stop. No one was struck by any pellets.

Clayton Police canvassed the area and parking lots of nearby schools but were unable to locate the vehicle.

Chief Tart said the vehicle was described as a black pickup truck with dark tinted windows and green script or cursive lettering on the back glass.

Caitlin Furr, Executive Director of Communication for Johnston County Public Schools said, “As always, we’re thankful for our working relationship with our local law enforcement, and for everything they do to keep our students and staff safe as that is our number one priority.”

The incident remains under investigation. Clayton Police asks that anyone having any information about this incident to contact them at 919-553-4611.

  1. Interesting they included the description of the suspects. Had they not been white certain code words like “teens” would have been used instead.

  2. And this is exactly why we need to arm *all* school employees and (some) students. No one is going to tak potshots at a bus with a pellet gun, if the bus driver is ready to return fire. The only way to stop a bad person with a gun, is by a good person with a gun!
