SELMA – An out-of-state construction worker has been charged with filing a false police report. Luke Hnatkoich of Little River, SC was arrested December 19, a few hours after he allegedly phoned police and stated his employers 2021 Chevrolet Silverado pickup had been stolen overnight while parked at the Quality Inn in Selma.
Selma Police responded to the 8:44am call at the motel. Police learned the truck was equipped with OnStar and quickly located the vehicle in the parking lot of Flying J Travel Center on Princeton-Kenly Road, just off Interstate 95 in Kenly.
Police said they reviewed security camera video at the truck stop, and a man wearing the exact same clothing Hnatkoich had on when he reported the vehicle stolen, exited the driver’s door of the pickup when it was arrived at the Flying J, Thursday morning.
After confronting the 40 year-old man, he allegedly told police he rear-ended a tractor trailer on Interstate 95 and did not know what to do. There were no known reports of a rear-end collision on I-95 during the time span.
Hnatkoich was given a $500 bond on the misdemeanor offense.
