Register Of Deeds Celebrates 15 Years Of Annual Shred Event

Shred Event Scheduled Saturday, April 13 In Smithfield

SMITHFIELD – Johnston County Register of Deeds Craig Olive has announced the date for the 15th Annual Shred Event. The event is scheduled for Saturday, April 13, 2024 from 10:00AM until 1:00PM. It is free to the public and will be held in the parking lot of Smithfield Selma Senior High School located at 700 M. Durwood Stephenson Parkway in Smithfield.

Sponsors include the Local Government Federal Credit Union, Civic Federal Credit Union, Hinson’s Printing and The Johnston County Report.

A long time and strong supporter of efforts to prevent identity theft, Mr. Olive believes that his annual Shred Events are a great benefit to the citizens of Johnston County.

“This is our 15th year in hosting the shred event. I will continue my efforts to prevent identity theft as long as I am in public service. These annual shred events provide our citizens a free way to dispose of personal and sensitive information. I am honored to continue our partnership with our other sponsors to provide this service for all citizens of Johnston County. The shredding of sensitive and personal documents is a proactive way to protect your identity. I am proud to host these events.”

In order to better serve the community, the Shred Event will limit the number of items to three boxes/trash bags per vehicle. For prompt service, please have your items prepped and ready; otherwise, you will be asked to adjust your items and re-enter at the back of lines.

The Shred Event has been an annual free event for Mr. Olive since 2009. This year marks 15 years, since the Johnston County Register of Deeds started the popular event. He looks forward to the event each year and has no plans to discontinue the effort.

“Our shred events are a highlight for me each year. I enjoy helping people and look forward to seeing our residents on this Saturday”, Mr. Olive stated.

At the 2023 shred event, almost 25,000 pounds of paper was shredded.
