April Is National Child Abuse Prevention Month

JOHNSTON COUNTY – April is National Child Abuse Prevention Month, and the Partnership for Children is encouraging individuals and organizations to play a role in making Johnston County a better place for children and families. By ensuring that parents have the knowledge, skills, and resources they need to care for their children, we can help prevent child abuse and neglect and make meaningful connections with children, youth, and families in our communities.

Research shows that protective factors are present in healthy families. These factors include nurturing and attachment, knowledge of parenting and child and youth development, parental resilience, social connections, concrete supports for parents, and social and emotional competence of children. The Partnership for Children promotes these through parenting programs, which Pinwheel display at the Partnership for Children Park in Smithfield, NC.equip caregivers with practical strategies and adequate support to deal with difficult situations and promote positive parent-child relationships.

Pinwheels are used to signify Child Abuse Prevention Month due to the childlike whimsy and lightheartedness they represent. The Partnership will have a display of pinwheels at the Partnership for Children Park in Smithfield beginning April 4th and lasting through the end of the month.

“April is a time to celebrate the important role that communities play in protecting children and strengthening families,” said the Partnership’s Executive Director, Candy Scott. “Working together to raise awareness is critical. Focusing on ways to connect with families is the best thing our community can do to strengthen families and prevent child abuse and neglect.”
