Report: Prius Driver Hits 100 MPH Before Arrest In Pursuit

CLAYTON — A Johnston County man was taken into custody after authorities said he tried to outrun deputies in a Toyota Prius, reaching speeds of 100 miles per hour.

The incident began around 11:10 p.m. on October 25, when a Johnston County sheriff’s deputy on patrol along Cleveland Road near Cornwallis Road reportedly saw a Toyota Prius illegally pass another vehicle at approximately 90 miles per hour in a 45 mph zone.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, the deputy turned around to initiate a traffic stop, but the driver—later identified as 33-year-old Alexander David Bordeaux of Clayton—accelerated instead of stopping. The pursuit continued through the area until Bordeaux eventually pulled over on the shoulder of Watkins Road.

Bordeaux was arrested without further incident and now faces multiple charges, including felony fleeing to elude arrest, reckless driving to endanger, driving left of center, and speeding.

Under North Carolina’s Run and Done law, the Toyota Prius was seized by authorities.

No injuries were reported during the pursuit.
