Scholarship Pageant Returns To Johnston County: A Celebration Of Elegance And Service

SMITHFIELD, N.C. — The wait is over! After last gracing the stage in 2021, the Johnston County Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. is thrilled to welcome back the Miss Jabberwock Pageant, a beloved tradition celebrating elegance, scholarship, and service.

This year’s event, themed “Through the Looking Glass: A Journey of Elegance, Scholarship, and Service,” will take place on Sunday, April 26, at Smithfield-Selma High School beginning at 4:00 PM. Admission is free, and donations will be accepted to support scholarship initiatives for deserving young women in the community.

The return of this distinguished program marks a renewed commitment to uplifting and empowering young women through educational opportunities and community engagement.

A Journey of Growth and Impact

Throughout their Jabberwock journey, contestants and their families have partnered with chapter sponsors to raise scholarship funds while participating in a series of enriching and transformative experiences. These activities were designed to foster academic excellence, leadership, and civic responsibility, including:

– A community service project at Brookdale Assisted Living in Smithfield
– Participation in the 25th Annual African American Cultural Celebration in North Carolina
– A social etiquette and professional conduct workshop
– A financial literacy and money management seminar
– A college preparation session, including FAFSA guidance and scholarship readiness

The Jabberwock Pageant is a longstanding tradition within Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., rooted in a mission to support young women in their pursuit of higher education, leadership development, and community service.
