This is the second overflow due to rainwater infiltration into Benson’s wastewater system during Hurricane Florence.
On Tuesday, officials said about 300,000 gallons of sewage escaped from manholes on Martin Street and Martin Street and Wall Street between Sept. 13 and Sept. 18.
The untreated wastewater was discharged into Driving Branch in the Neuse River Basin. Both spills were reported to state water quality officials.
