Selma Town Council Member Susan Watson Resigns
SELMA – Susan P. Watson, a member of the Selma Town Council, submitted her resignation Tuesday afternoon. The resignation is effective immediately.
She released the following statement to The Johnston County Report:
After thoughtful reflection, I have decided to resign my position on the Selma Town Council, effective immediately.
It has been an honor to serve the residents of our community, and I am grateful for the opportunity to contribute to the important work of local government in a place I love and that my family and business have proudly called home for 65 years.
I believe deeply in the values of public service, transparency, and careful decision-making. I also believe that effective leadership requires collaboration, adequate deliberation, thorough research of issues, and shared expectations around process. Over time, it has become clear that differences in perspective regarding these approaches to governance make it difficult for me to serve as responsibly as I believe this role requires. As a result, stepping aside is the most appropriate decision to maintain personal integrity and to avoid allowing these differences to become a distraction from the work of the Town.
I thank the residents of Selma for their engagement and support, and I wish the Town Council continued success in its work on behalf of the community.
Mrs. Watson was appointed to the town council in November 2023 and won elected in November 2025. She was sworn in to a four-year term in December 2025.

Very sad!
Selma has problems. Hopefully everything will be reviled in the near future and people will see what the mayor and his two minions are up to.
Sad. She has good ideas !!! Susan loves Selma. Probably ran off by the mayor just like that admin was.
Susan , such a wonderful person and whom I admire. I am not in Selma town limits but Im sure your contributions are to be missed. Too often new ideas and methods of leadership get suppressed by long standing members stuck in time. I do hope this isn’t the case. Our county leadership scares me with outragous tax increases and what appears to be rezoning to gain more control over home and farm and business owners. Not to mention their infighting and past members questionable family business contracts with school board members. I ask myself how do these things happen and feel helpless without term limits. All districts contribute but the western Johnston county gets the bulk of funding for roads, infrastructure, and schools while leaving eastern districts pot luck just to gain access to west bound 70/42. When theres a fatal collision they just force more dangerous u turns instead of ramps and bridges.
Yes, this is very sad! Susan is a bright young woman with great ideas. Additionally, she is very professional, demonstrates integrity, and is transparent. Susan’s love for her hometown of Selma has always been evident. Most recently during her tenure as a Town of Selma Council Member. However, Mayor McAllister is threatened by smart women, and doesn’t like being questioned about anything. I too hope that he and his two “puppets / minions” are exposed sooner rather than later.

Maybe the minions are happy… for now. Unjustified firings, layoffs seems like just trying to throw their so called authority around. Even town manager has enough sense to resign!! Or was there other issues… Wake up SELMA YOUR worst days might just be ahead.
