Selma Traffic Enforcement Operation Results In 65 Charges

SELMA — A Friday night checking station and saturation patrol in Selma resulted in 65 charges, including DWI and drug offenses, according to the Selma Police Department.
The operation was conducted Oct. 9 by Selma Police with assistance from the Smithfield Police Department, Kenly Police Department and North Carolina State Highway Patrol.

The enforcement effort focused on impaired driving and roadway safety.
The 65 charges included one DWI, two open-container violations, 18 no-operator’s-license charges, 12 driving-while-license-revoked charges and 13 registration violations.

Officers also filed one felony drug charge and seven misdemeanor drug charges.
Other violations included one seat belt charge, four child restraint violations and six additional traffic charges.
Selma Police Chief Justin Vause said, “Impaired driving is a serious and preventable danger to our community. Every time someone chooses to drive under the influence, they put innocent lives at risk. We will continue to take a proactive approach to identifying impaired drivers and holding them accountable before their decisions result in a tragedy.”

Thank you Selma Police . I love seeing check points. Driving is a privilege, not a right. Thank you for getting the ones who have no license. Thank you for keeping our little town safe..I appreciate the job that you all do. Much respect for you all!
Hear, Hear!
Good work.
Great job. WOW. This apparently needs to be done more often. No license, revoked, child seat issues. No restraints for the kids WOW
Driving is a right not a privilege
Over two thirds of the arrests were for license and or registration violations. It is obvious that we have a very real problem with drivers and vehicles that should not be on the road. I am guessing the penalties are not severe enough because the same offenders keep repeating the act and putting law abiding drivers in danger.
