Semi Hauling Vodka Overturns

A tractor trailer loaded with vodka overturned in Clayton Thursday morning causing traffic delays.

Around 6:00AM the tractor trailer driver, Johnathan Davis Chrissy, 33, of Kingsland, GA was attempting to turn onto Shotwell Road from westbound US 70 when the truck flipped onto its side.  A passerby helped the driver from the cab of the truck.

Shotwell Road was closed from US 70  to Old US 70 West (Old Garner Road) for 8 hours. It was reopened to traffic around 2:00PM.

The truck was hauling 17 pallets of vodka weighing more than 40,000 pounds.  A wrecker company attempted to upright the trailer full of liquor cases but could not so the cargo had to be offloaded box by box. Officials said many of the bottles were broken from the impact.

Clayton Police and the Highway Patrol said Chrissy failed to properly secured the cargo in the truck causing it to shift when the truck made the turn.

Clayton fire crews contained a small oil spill from the overturned truck.
