Sexual Assault Reported

Police are investigating a sexual assault in Smithfield.

A 59 year-old woman reported she was the victim of an assault that occurred at her home Saturday night. The victim reportedly knew the alleged assailant.

The woman received minor injuries, according to police.

Captain R.K. Powell said the case has been assigned to the detectives division.
