GOLDSBORO – Goldsboro Police have charged three people in connection with a shooting incident inside Berkeley Mall, at 625 N. Berkeley Boulevard.
At 11:52am Thursday, police received reports of a shooting inside the mall. Multiple law enforcement officers from the Goldsboro Police Department, Wayne County Sheriff’s Office, and North Carolina State Highway Patrol responded to the mall and surrounding areas.
Law enforcement entered the mall, spoke with staff, and made a preliminary determination that several suspects involved in the incident had fled the area.
Descriptions of the suspects were disseminated to law enforcement personnel.
On scene at the mall, law enforcement began conducting a security sweep of the premises and adjacent areas and subsequently determined that no one had been injured by the gunfire.
Efforts to safely evacuate patrons and employees within the mall were undertaken.
Additional law enforcement personnel saturated and searched the area for the suspects and located one individual in the 2800 block of Cashwell Drive. Two additional suspects were later located and arrested in the 3100 block of Cashwell Drive.
Officers recovered firearms from all three suspects.
Police said the shooting involved individuals known to each other and was not a random act of violence.
Jalil McDuffie, age 21; De’Maj Oates, age 19; and Tywan Bennett, age 18, all from Goldsboro were charged with attempted murder, discharging a firearm in an enclosed area, going armed to the terror of the public, and carrying a concealed gun.
