Authorities believe a squatter broke into a home on Highway 301 South of Four Oaks near South Johnston High School.
The owner of the vacant residence went to check on her house on Christmas Eve and discovered where someone had broken in and had been living in the residence. Deputies said the intruder had placed a mattress in the residence along with a propane heater. The owner had last checked on the property on December 1st.
No items were reported missing but the home had sustained about $1,000 in damage.
No arrests have been made.
