State History Museums, Including Kenly Site, To Standardize Hours

KENLY, N.C. — The Tobacco Farm Life Museum in Kenly will begin operating under a new standardized schedule as part of a statewide effort involving North Carolina regional history museums.

The North Carolina Department of Natural and Cultural Resources announced the updated operating hours will take effect June 1 at seven regional museums across the state, including the Tobacco Farm Life Museum.

Beginning June 1, the Kenly museum will be open Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. The museum will generally be closed Sundays, Mondays and state holidays, with limited seasonal and special programming exceptions.

Visitors planning afternoon trips are encouraged to arrive before 4:30 p.m.

According to the Department of Natural and Cultural Resources, the standardized schedule is intended to create consistency among regional museums, improve visitor expectations and better coordinate programming and support services.

“These standardized hours allow us to provide a more consistent and reliable experience for our visitors while strengthening coordination across our regional network,” said Maria Vann, Director of Regional History Museums.

The Tobacco Farm Life Museum is one of seven museums included in the statewide schedule adjustment. Other participating sites include the Graveyard of the Atlantic Museum in Hatteras, Mountain Gateway Museum in Old Fort, Museum of the Albemarle in Elizabeth City, Museum of the Cape Fear Historical Complex in Fayetteville, the North Carolina Maritime Museum in Beaufort, and the North Carolina Maritime Museum in Southport.
