Five teachers at Neuse Charter School in Smithfield qualified for State Teacher Legislated Performance Bonuses based on student performance during the 2018-2019 school year. Jeff Matisoff, 6th grade math teacher, qualified because his students scored in the top 25th percentile on the state End of Grade test for last school year.

Four high school teachers qualified for this state Teacher Bonus based on their students’ Advanced Placement test scores. This bonus was based on the number of students who received a score of 3 or higher on the AP test in their respective subjects. Those high school teachers are Brad Ward for AP English Language and Composition, Anna Westergard for AP Biology, Beth Miller for both AP United States History and AP United States Government and Politics and Paige Bruner for both AP Statistics and AP Calculus BC.

“I am proud of the academic achievement Neuse Charter School students were able to accomplish with the AP Exams and math EOG,” said John Betterton, Interim Executive Director at Neuse Charter School. “To achieve this type of goal certainly takes commitment. It also takes commitment from those who help the students get there. In this case we have five teachers who have challenged their students to work hard and achieve. Thank you, teachers and keep up the good work!”
