Suspect Charged With Food Stamp Fraud

SELMA – Police in Selma have arrested a suspect for food stamp fraud. On February 28, 2023, a 31 year-old Selma resident reported her ex-boyfriend had stolen her food stamp card and password to access her online account information. The theft occurred in December 2022.

The victim said she had not been able to access her food stamp card, and he was allegedly selling $695 in food stamps she received each month to unknown individuals.

The woman said it was creating a hardship for her to provide food for her children.

Police identified the suspect as Antwan Dominique Johnson, age 30, of Erwin. Police allege he stole at least $2,930 in food stamps from the woman, possibly more. A warrant for Johnson’s arrest was obtained on June 8, 2023.

Smithfield Police located Johnson on December 23 on S. Brightleaf Boulevard and took him into custody. Johnson was charged with one felony count of food stamp fraud and 8 felony counts of buy/sell/distribute food stamps. He was held under a $170,000 secured bond at the Johnston County Detention Center.

Smithfield Police also served a misdemeanor probation violation warrant from Harnett County on Antwan Johnson. He was given an additional $50,000 secured bond for that offense.
