Suspect In Multiple Crimes Found Hiding Under Bed

CLAYTON – An investigation into a rash of thefts has led to an arrest.  Danny Lamont Avery, age 45, of the 400 block of Big Pine Road, Clayton was arrested by the Johnston County Sheriff’s Office.

Avery is facing multiple charges including breaking and entering, larceny, injury to property, and probation violation.

Avery is charged with the following incidents:

  • April 23, 2023 break-in and larceny of $2,350 in power tools in the 3300 block of Jack Road, Clayton
  • Feb. 12, 2024 break-in in the 300 block of Slate Top Road, Clayton
  • Feb. 16, 2024 break-in and larceny in the 800 block of Government Road, Clayton. $697 in items were stolen including the victim’s Ring doorbell camera
  • Feb. 18, 2024 larceny of a dirt bike, tires and tools valued at $4,859 from a home in the 200 block of Slate Top Road, Clayton
  • Feb. 21, 2024 larceny of food, cooking oil, and a meat slicer valued at $806 from a home on Old Yogi Lane, Clayton
  • Feb. 23, 2024 residential break-in and larceny of two tires valued at $300 in the 400 block of Big Pine Road, Clayton
  • Feb. 26, 2024 larceny of two outdoor security cameras valued at $100 from the 600 block of Slate Top Road, Clayton

    Avery was reported found hiding under a bed at a family members home on Feb. 27 when he was arrested. During the arrest, evidence was reportedly found linking Avery to several of the crimes. 

    Avery was held under a $331,000 secured bond.  Additional charges have not been ruled out.
