Town Of Selma To Celebrate Railroad Days Festival With Virtual Events

SELMA – The Town of Selma Parks and Recreation Department announced today that it will host virtual events, a model train display, a Food Truck Rodeo, and an online merchandise store to commemorate the 2020 Railroad Days Festival.

On Friday, Oct. 2nd from 5:30 pm to 8:00 pm, at the corner of Webb and Waddell Streets, the 4th Annual Chew Chew Food Truck Rodeo will be held in collaboration with the Selma Firefighters Association BBQ Cook-Off.  Take out, car hop, and walk up options will be available. Social distancing guidelines will apply including requirements to wear a mask and stay 6 feet apart.

The planned virtual events include an “All-Aboard” Hollering Contest where participants submit their videos of their best impression of a train conductor yelling “All-Aboard”.  Along with a Railroad Days D.I.Y. Train contest, where participants build a train out of everyday household items and submit their photo for judging.

The model train display at Historic Union Depot is scheduled for Friday and Saturday, Oct. 2nd and 3rd from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. This display will feature the works of the North Raleigh Model Train Club.  Social distancing guidelines will apply inside the Historic Union Depot.

“The committee is very excited about this year’s events to celebrate the Festival.  The Selma Railroad Days Online Merchandise store will offer t-shirts and hats for purchase until September 23rd.  You can find the link to purchase items on the Selma Parks and Recreation website, and all of our social media outlets.  As always, please continue to support local Selma businesses and stay safe,” said Parks and Director and Railroad Days Committee Chairman Billy Roach.
