Two County Chase Ends With Crash

JOHNSTON COUNTY – An early morning chase started in Johnston County and ended in Harnett County.

Around 1:00 a.m. today (Saturday), a Johnston County state trooper conducting speed enforcement on Interstate 40, between the 322 and 323 mile marker outside of Benson, clocked on radar a white Honda traveling 90 mph in a 70 mph zone.

The trooper attempted to stop the speeding Honda but the driver refused to pull over.

The suspect exited from Interstate 40 onto NC 242 North (Exit 325) and continued into the Benson city limits.

The chase turned onto US 301 South into Harnett County and eventually the Dunn city limits.

The suspect lost control while traveling on W. Pope Street in Dunn and struck a tree.

The driver jumped and ran from the scene.

The suspect managed to elude arrest but was identified after he reportedly dropped his wallet and cell phone.

The Honda was seized under the NC Run and Done law.

Charges against the suspect are pending.

  1. 🎶Dumb-Da-Dumb-Dumb_Dumb🎶. Wallet and cellphone??? Hmmmm. I know he must be the dumbest criminal yet!!!!

    • Last time I checked the police did not make the drivers run from them. Take responsibility for your crime and do the time. I commend all officers who risk their lives daily for all of us. Yes, car chases are not 100% safe all the time but I think catching the criminals and getting off the streets outweighs the risks.

  2. When will idiots quit trying to act irresponsible and not pull over. If you are brave enough to do the crime don’t be a coward and run or you will be like this idiot paying for a car for the next 3-4 years while you are riding a bicycle.
