A busy route in Smithfield and one in Downtown Kenly will have overnight lane closures this week to allow an N.C. Department of Transportation contractor to repave the roadway.
Fred Smith Inc. of Raleigh will mill old asphalt and place new pavement on NC Highway 222 (Second Street) inside the town of Kenly and also on Peedin Road between Brightleaf Boulevard (US 301) and the railroad tracks in Smithfield.
The contractor has announced the following schedule, which depends on dry weather. If there is rain, the project may require an additional day or two to be completed.
- NC Highway 222 (Second Street) in Kenly: July 6-8
- Peedin Road in Smithfield: July 9-11
The work will begin about 7 p.m. and end by 5 a.m. the next day. The construction will require lane closures with flagging operations. Drivers who can’t avoid the work zone should slow down, be alert for works and prepare for delays.
