The Johnston County Board of Education has approved a request by the Board of Elections to use East Clayton Elementary and River Dell Elementary as polling locations for the general election on November 8th.
The Board of Education voted this week to close the schools for students at East Clayton and River Dell Elementary on Election Day. The decision was based on the recommendation of the Johnston County Board of Elections due to safety concerns as the result of expected high volume of voters utilizing these schools, parking lots and connecting roads and highways.
November 8th will be designated a workday for teachers, custodians, bus driver/teacher assistants, and cafeteria workers instead of an Early Dismissal Day as originally planned.
In order to make up instructional time from November 8th students at East Clayton and River Dell Elementary will complete a full school day on February 23, 2017, instead of the originally scheduled Early Release Day.
