US 70 Crash Leaves Five Seriously Injured In Johnston County
WILSON’S MILLS, N.C. — Two children and three adults were seriously injured in a rear-end collision involving a commercial wrecker on U.S. 70 in Johnston County.
The crash occurred around 11:15 a.m. Saturday in the westbound lanes of U.S. 70 near Swift Creek Road.
According to preliminary information, traffic had slowed and backed up because of an unrelated single-vehicle accident near Strickland Road.
As westbound traffic came to a stop near Swift Creek Road, a small red passenger car was struck from behind by a large commercial wrecker.
All five occupants of the red car—three adults and two children—were transported to WakeMed with serious injuries. One of the children reportedly suffered critical injuries.
The Wilson’s Mills Police Department, Wilson’s Mills Fire Department, and Johnston County EMS responded to the scene and treated the victims before they were transported to the hospital.
The collision caused significant traffic disruptions along U.S. 70 while emergency personnel assisted the injured and investigated the crash.
Police continue to investigate the collision. No additional information about the victims or the cause of the crash has been released.
