SELMA, N.C. — Brannan Barbee has been named Fire Chief for the Town of Selma, bringing more than 20 years of fire service experience and a long history of serving the community.

Barbee joined the Selma Fire Department in 2012 as a fire engineer and has steadily advanced through the ranks, serving as captain and assistant fire chief. Prior to joining Selma, he volunteered with the Pine Level Fire Department, where he also served as fire chief for six years.

Throughout his career, Barbee has earned a reputation for professionalism, dedication, and a strong commitment to firefighter development and providing high-quality emergency services.

Town Manager Phillip McDaniel said Barbee has played a key role in shaping the department’s culture and success.

“I look forward to seeing the department work together providing pristine emergency services to the Selma community under Chief Barbee’s leadership,” McDaniel said.

Barbee said it is an honor to lead the department.

“It is a tremendous honor to be the Fire Chief for the Selma Fire Department. Former Fire Chief Phillip McDaniel’s 19-year legacy built the strong foundation we stand on today, and I am fully committed to leading our dedicated firefighters forward with that same passion, professionalism, and progressive vision,” Barbee said.

Barbee said the department will continue its commitment to protecting the community while preparing for the future.

“Our promise to the citizens of Selma remains unchanged; whenever you have your worst day, our professional crews will answer the call ready to serve, sacrifice, and protect. We will honor the proud traditions of this department while aggressively embracing the modern tactics and technologies of the future,” he said.

Under Barbee’s leadership, the Selma Fire Department plans to continue emphasizing firefighter training, rapid emergency response, people-first service, and community outreach.

Barbee will be officially sworn in as fire chief during the Selma Town Council meeting on Aug. 6, 2026.
