Wilson’s Mills Spray Paint Vandalism Suspect Caught, Police Say

This home on Imperial Drive in the Ives Landing Subdivision in Wilson’s Mills was vandalized in the early morning hours of November 9, 2023.   

WILSON’S MILLS – Police have arrested a suspect they say is responsible for a series of recently vandalism incidents in the Ives Landing Subdivision.

Romaro Delshon Matthews, age 45, of New Bern, NC was arrested around 2:15am Thursday leaving the subdivision following a vandalism that had just occurred at 78 Imperial Drive.

This home on Imperial Drive in the Ives Landing Subdivision in Wilson’s Mills was vandalized in the early morning hours of November 9, 2023.   

Wilson’s Mills Police were dispatched to the address after the homeowner reportedly observed Matthews spray painting the front of their house. Matthews was detained during a traffic stop on Southerland Road.

Police said Romaro Matthews met the description of the same person observed on a video camera committing a similar act on October 30, just two doors down, at 96 Imperial Drive in Ives Landing.

Matthews was driving a black four door Buick, which was the same type vehicle also observed on surveillance cameras on October 30.

Altogether, Matthews is suspected of vandalizing two vehicles and two homes. One of those homes was spray painted four times.

Matthews was charged with five counts of second-degree trespassing, two counts of injury to property, three counts of communicating threats, one count of stalking, cyberstalking, and harassing phone calls.

Police Chief A. Z. Williams said, “This arrest relates to an ongoing case that involves one of the homeowners and the suspect. We have no doubt that this individual is responsible for both residential and vehicle incidents and multiple threats that were levied against one of the victims.”

Chief Williams declined to say what those threats were. “There is the possibility that more charges will be forthcoming.”

The police chief said the investigation is ongoing.
