SUV Strikes State Employees’ Credit Union

SMITHFIELD – No injuries were reported after a vehicle struck the State Employee’s Credit Union at 502 N. Brightleaf Boulevard. The accident was reported around 9:00am Friday.

Fortunately, the SECU was closed for the Veterans Day Holiday, potentially preventing injuries from any customers or employees.

Smithfield Police, Smithfield Fire and Johnston County EMS responded to the accident and cordoned off the area with yellow tape.

Johnston County Building Inspections responded and posted the area as unsafe. Director of Inspections Shane Hudson said the structural steel column did not appear to be damaged and there was no damage inside other than the corner windows.

Damage to the building was estimated at $20,000.
