Driver Crashes And Dies After Suffering Medical Emergency

CLAYTON – The driver of a Ford pickup truck died Sunday afternoon after suffering a medical emergency, then crashed into three vehicles and a business.  It happened on Highway 70 Business West near the Food Lion.

Clayton Police said the 63 year-old Four Oaks man had an unknown medical condition that caused him to lose consciousness while driving in the Food Lion parking lot Sunday afternoon.  He struck a Lexus, Ford SUV and Jeep before colliding with the Jiffy Lube building at 10141 Highway 70 West.

The driver died at the scene. The occupants in the other three vehicles were uninjured. No one inside Jiffy Lube was hurt but the building sustained approximately $20,000 in damage.  The Town of Clayton Inspections Department was called to assess the damaged building.
