A fire truck responding to an emergency call overturned this morning injuring three firefighters who were onboard.
Cleveland Fire Department Engine 2 was responding to a fire alarm activation at 10:15AM when it ran off Cleveland Road near Cornwallis Road in front of the Dollar General store. Three firemen were transported by ambulance to Johnston Health in Clayton for minor injuries. All three have now been released from the hospital.
Trooper C.R. Thompson said the fire truck was traveling eastbound on Cleveland Road with its emergency equipment activated. The truck hydroplaned on wet pavement and the driver lost control. Several mailboxes and a water meter were damaged.
No charges are expected to be filed.
The NC DOT responded to assist clearing mud and debris from the roadway. A detour was set up around the accident scene for several hours by the Johnston County Sheriff’s Office.
