3 Months After Price Hike, USPS Wants To Raise Stamp Prices Again

The cost of a first-class stamp could increase from 68 cents to 73 cents on July 14, 2024 under a new rate hike proposal unveiled this week by the US Postal Service. The additional-ounce price for letters would also increase from 24 cents to 28 cents. Postcards would increase 3 cents.

The federal agency raised rates in January 2024, including the price of a Forever stamp from 66 to 68 cents. In 2019, the cost of a first class stamp was 50 cents.

The latest proposed price adjustments would see the cost for some postal services jump nearly 8 percent.

The Postal Regulatory Commission will ultimately decide if the new prices will go into effect in July.

Postage costs have increased 36 percent in the past 4 years while the USPS is delivering fewer letters and packages. In 2022, 127.3 billion parcels were handled, down from 128.9 billion in 2021.

  1. Maybe if they quit delivering package on Sunday
    They would save money! B
I have seen two different carriers, one bringing mail to the other one so the package can be delivered!!
Wonder what that hourly rate is on Sundays?

  2. This is insane. Post Office cannot even get our mail in the right box in South Smithfield and they want to raise the price of stamps again, They need to have much better service than they do.

  3. The higher the price the less business they will get. My wife and I have been paying more bills online then sending them thru the USPS due to cost. Along with that, the USPS messes up the mail all the time. Wrong address, delayed delivery and so on.

  4. With the price of stamps is it any wonder why people are paying everything online. Not to speak of the crappy service they provide. I have a p.o. box and has had it for about 40 yrs. (same box, same number) and yet I have mail returned as undeliverable at the post office!
