Christian Academy Employee Terminated After Arrest

GOLDSBORO – An employee at a Goldsboro Christian school has been terminated following her arrest.

On January 22, 2024, the School Resource Officer at Faith Christian Academy was notified by a school faculty member that a firearm was located inside a restroom at the school. The faculty member relayed to the resource officer the weapon was found by an elementary-aged student who immediately notified their teacher. The officer went to where the gun was found, located it, and secured the weapon.

After a brief investigation by the resource officer and school administration, it was reportedly determined Carla D. McComb, a concealed handgun carry permittee and an employee of Faith Free Will Baptist Church, was the person who had left the firearm in the restroom moments before the student located it.

McComb, age 46, of Kinston, was charged with possession of a weapon on educational property.

Pastor Christian Powell released a written statement that having a weapon on school grounds is a violation of the law and prohibited by school rules. “The employee has since been terminated. We deeply regret this incident occurred, but we are thankful that no one was injured, and all or our students and faculty were safe.”

McComb is free from custody on a $1,000 bond pending her next court appearance.

  1. As she should be terminated. Weapons are not permitted on educational property by civilian’s. Also her CCW permit should be revoked. She knew better.

    • Not sure what someone closed minded like yourself would think of this, but, ever thought it’s not the firearms people are against? It’s the children and people dying needlessly over things that are so simple to control. Look at the statistics of every other country and then look at us when firearms are involved. We the people lead by lightyears..

      • More heartbeats have ended at the hands of a doctor under the name of “choice” than any gun has caused.

        • How does that “choice” affect the dangers of going to school everyday? Or walking to get the mail? Or going to the grocery store? You’re comparing two different games here.

          • Nope, the poster claimed guns are a threat to people’s lives and I responded that more lives are taken in the name of choice. Not a game; reality. You can’t argue that guns are killing people because the gun is an inanimate object. It cannot load, aim or fire by itself. It takes a person to do all that. Just like the gun didn’t get to the school by itself.. It was brought by a person. You can’t blame an inanimate object for something a human does.

      • Ever look at the fact that a) mass shootings have an odd way of being committed by liberal registered Democrats and b) the number of shootings committed by people obtaining the guns illegally vastly overshadows the number by legal gun owners? Both are fact. Look it up.

  2. This is another example of how Christians are persecuted. If she had been an atheist academy employee, they wouldn’t have done a thing. This is why I say Merry Christmas. Merry Christmas you old Building and Loan! MAGA

    • Leave a gun in any school these days and you’ll get arrested. Persecuted for being Christian? Are you high? She brought a gun into a school. Show me a single example of a non Christian school letting this slide. You make all us conservatives look bad with that mess.

  3. You are all overlooking the real crime here…. $1000 bond for essentially giving a loaded handgun to an elementary student???? Liberal judges who don’t want to protect our children should be removed from office. #VoteOutIncumbents

  4. I have no issues with people owning guns. I do have an issue with stupid people owning guns. It’s time to require a license to own a gun. It’s not taking away anyone’s 2nd amendment rights. If you can’t pass the test your not competent enough to own a gun. When you pass the test then you can own a gun.

    • Agreed. The problem is; can you name any other constitutional right that requires a person to have a license to exercise?

      • The 21st amendment repealed the 18 amendment but you still have to have a liquor license to sell alcohol. You also have to be a certain age to consume alcohol.
