Driver Critically Injured After Large Tree Limb Falls On Car

A woman was critically injured Sunday afternoon in northern Johnston County after a large tree limb fell on her car.  The accident happened about 12:30pm on Highway 96 just north of Covered Bridge Road.

A car was traveling southbound when a large 16 inch in diameter limb began to fall.  A witness said they saw the driver swerve and slow down to avoid the falling limb but could not stop in time.   The limb crushed the car, critically injuring the driver.

The Corinth Holders Fire Department responded and extricated the victim who was pinned inside her vehicle.

Trooper N.A. Hocutt said Laragh Covington, 34, of Zebulon was critically injured. She was the only occupant in the car. At last report today (Monday), Covington was still listed in critical condition at WakeMed.

The NC DOT responded to clear the tree and debris from the roadway.
