Driver Flees Traffic Stop, Crashes On Dead-End Road

DUNN – A short vehicle chase ended in a crash and arrest Thursday evening in Harnett County after a driver attempted to flee from a state trooper.

Just after 5:30 p.m., a trooper attempted to stop a white Honda Accord for a speeding violation. The driver refused to pull over and tried to flee.

During the pursuit, the vehicle turned from Long Branch Road onto Copart Road, a dead-end roadway. The car failed to navigate a sharp curve and struck a guardrail head-on.

The driver jumped out of the vehicle and ran from the scene. Dunn Police officers and K-9 units were requested to assist in the search.

Dunn Emergency Services also responded due to the severity of the crash.

The passenger, who was trapped inside the vehicle, was freed by first responders and taken into custody. The driver was located a short distance away, lying on the ground and detained.

Both the driver and passenger were evaluated by EMS at the scene and declined further medical treatment.

The driver, identified as Charles Hunt Jr., 24, of Fayetteville, was taken into custody without further incident. He faces multiple charges, including felony fleeing to elude arrest, failure to heed light and siren, reckless driving, speeding 77mph in a 55mph zone, driving without an operator’s license, and resisting a public officer.

During a search of the vehicle, troopers found approximately 10 grams of suspected marijuana inside a thermos. The Honda was seized under North Carolina’s Run and You’re Done law.

  1. I just don’t get why people run. There’s only a 5 percent chance of getting away and if its your car you run on, they have enough information to find you. It’s not worth it. Cowards run, real men face the consequences.
