I-95 Construction In Benson Requires Temporary Ramp Closure

BENSON, N.C. – The Interstate 95 northbound on-ramp at Exit 79 (N.C. 50) is scheduled to close this weekend for 10 days due to ongoing construction.

Contract crews will close the ramp from N.C. 50 to I-95 North beginning late Sunday night, Aug. 23. The closure is needed so crews can realign the ramp with the new roundabout that opened last month.

The on-ramp is expected to reopen by the early morning hours of Sept. 4.

The marked detour will send drivers onto I-95 South to the Hodges Chapel Road/Exit 77. There, they will exit, cross over I-95 and re-enter it to proceed northbound.

This work is part of the continuing effort to widen and modernize I-95 between Exits 71 and 81. In July, the N.C. Department of Transportation reopened Exit 79 after completing bridge renovations and the new roundabout at the N.C. 50 and N.C. 242 intersection.
