Gun Displayed In Road Rage Incident

SMITHFIELD — Police are investigating a road rage incident Monday in which a handgun was reportedly displayed during a confrontation on West Market Street (U.S. 70 Business).

The incident occurred around 5:15 p.m. near the Rose Manor Shopping Center. A 35-year-old Benson man told officers another driver pulled out a gun after a road rage incident. The two drivers stopped their vehicles. During an altercation, one of the car’s mirrors was punched.

The suspect left before officers arrived. Investigators said the incident was not random and that the men knew each other.

The investigation is ongoing.
