BENSON – An investigation into the theft of three vehicles stolen from a used car dealership in Johnston County has led to an arrest.
On August 15, 2023, the owner of Marathon Motors Inc. on Old Roberts Road, Benson reported the theft of a 2009 Lexus, 2010 Chevy Tahoe and 2012 Dodge Charger. Several license plates and a catalytic converter were also taken.
The Johnston County Sheriff’s Office identified Austin Lee McDaniels, age 24, of Moore Court, Angier as the suspect and obtained warrants for his arrest. On January 12, 2024, McDaniels was arrested during a traffic stop on Highway 210 in western Johnston County.
McDaniels faces multiple charges including breaking and entering, larceny of motor vehicle, possession of stolen motor vehicle, larceny of motor vehicle parts, larceny, possession of stolen goods, identity theft, possession of catalytic converter, interfering with an electronic monitoring device, and felony probation violation.
