A man and his wife were arrested Monday night after a shoplifting incident at Adam & Eve on N. Equity Drive in Smithfield.
Smithfield Police said an employee followed their car as they left and used a cell phone to notify police of their location. Police stopped the car a short distance away.
Melvin Bass Hicks, 40, and Jennifer Leigh Hicks, 37, of Rocky Mount were arrested during the traffic stop.
Melvin Hicks was charged with larceny, carrying a concealed weapon and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was given a $16,000 bond.
Jennifer Hicks was not charged with the shoplifting but was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia. She was given a $1,000 bond.
Police recovered $660 worth of adult videos and adult toys and returned them to the business.
