Johnston County Business Hit By $100,000 Copper Theft
PRINCETON, N.C. – Johnston County authorities are investigating the theft of $100,000 worth of copper during a break-in at a business near Princeton.
According to the Johnston County Sheriff’s Office, unknown suspects entered Carolina Aggregates on Williford Road during the early morning hours of May 26 and targeted the facility’s electrical infrastructure.
Investigators said the suspects damaged a Duke Energy electrical box and two security cameras, cutting power and video surveillance access to the site before carrying out the theft.
Authorities reported that approximately $100,000 worth of one-inch copper wiring was stolen from the business.
The damage to the Duke Energy utility box was estimated at $40,000, bringing the total losses from the incident to roughly $140,000.
The break-in occurred between 1:33 a.m. and 6:30 a.m., according to investigators.
No arrests have been announced.
