Korean War Veteran Wins Lottery Five Times In One Drawing

Wins a $163,634 Cash 5 Jackpot And $1,000 In Cash 5 prizes

Luck struck Navy veteran Add Lancaster of Pikeville not once, but five times, when he won five lottery prizes in one Cash 5 drawing, including the $163,634 jackpot.

“I wanted to shout, ‘Hallelujah!’ when I saw what I won,” Lancaster said, sticking his arms in the air. “I’ve been lucky my whole life, but I can’t believe this.”

The Korean War veteran’s good fortune started when he stopped at Wissam & Brothers Inc. on Fort Run Road in Pikeville and bought a Cash 5 ticket for Monday’s drawing. Lancaster used five sets of his own numbers and bought one ticket with five plays on it. He found out he won later that night.

“My wife writes down the numbers for me during the drawing,” Lancaster said. “When she handed me the paper, so I could check my ticket, I couldn’t believe it. One of my lines matched five numbers and the other ones matched four numbers. I started shouting, ‘I got it! I got it! I hit the lottery!’”

The line that matched all five numbers won a $163,634 Cash 5 jackpot, beating odds of one in 962,598. The lines that matched all four numbers won $250 each for a total of $1,000. They beat odds of one in 5,066.

He claimed his prizes Wednesday at lottery headquarters in Raleigh. After required state and federal tax withholdings, he took home $116,480. He plans to use some of the money to pay bills and do some home repairs.
