BUIES CREEK – After his career outing, starting pitcher Jake Murray is recognized as the Coastal Athletic Association Pitcher of the Week. The conference made the announcement Monday morning.

A graduate student from Wendell, N.C., Murray recorded a career-high 14 strikeouts and did not allow a hit in his six innings of work on Friday night in Campbell’s 6-1 win over Texas State.

Murray hit two batters in the first inning and issued a walk in the second before facing the minimum in his final four frames of work. He struck out the side in the first and third innings and struck out two in the remaining four innings.

Murray sits atop the CAA in total strikeouts with 35, including a league-leading 11 strikeouts looking. He’s also top 10 in the conference in ERA and opposing batting average, as well as hits, runs and walks allowed.

His total strikeouts also rank 18th in the NCAA, and his strikeouts-to-walks ratio (15.24) is 12th in the country.

Murray joins Player of the Week Cam Maldonado (OF, Northeastern) and Rookie of the Week Rory Finn (1B, Delaware) as the CAA weekly award winners.
