National Night Out Returns To Smithfield Community Park Aug. 4

SMITHFIELD, N.C. — Residents will have an opportunity to meet local law enforcement officers, firefighters and other public safety personnel during the annual National Night Out celebration on Tuesday, Aug. 4.

The free community event will be held from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Smithfield Community Park, located at 600 M. Durwood Stephenson Parkway.

National Night Out is an annual community-building campaign designed to strengthen relationships between law enforcement agencies and the communities they serve while promoting crime prevention, neighborhood partnerships and public safety.

Families attending the event can enjoy a variety of free activities and attractions, including pizza, hot dogs, popcorn and snow cones. Children will also have the opportunity to visit a petting zoo, play on bounce houses and learn about public safety through interactive demonstrations and exhibits.

One of the highlights of the evening will be K-9 demonstrations, giving attendees an up-close look at the training and skills used by law enforcement canine teams. Firefighters will also showcase a fire sprinkler demonstration, while public safety agencies will provide safety information and answer questions from the community.

Participating agencies include the Smithfield Police Department, North Carolina State Highway Patrol, Smithfield Fire Department, Johnston County Sheriff’s Office, Johnston County Animal Services, the Selma Police Department, Selma Fire Department and Johnston County EMS, along with other community partners.

National Night Out is held in communities across the country each year to encourage neighbors to get to know one another while fostering positive relationships with law enforcement and first responders.
