Smithfield- Barbara Erwin Jones Lee, age 79, passed away on Tuesday, October 4, 2022 at her home in Smithfield. Born in Johnston County on February 16, 1943, she was a daughter to the late William Jones Jr. and Margaret Louise Overbee Jones.
Barbara graduated from the Wilson School of Nursing in 1964. She also obtained her Masters in Education from NC State University, and a bachelor’s of science degree in nursing from Wesleyan College. Barbara was the lead med/surg instructor at Johnston Community College and retired in 2008 after 30 years of service. She was appointed by the Johnston County Board of commissions to the Nursing Domiciliary Advisory Committee for which she served as chairperson.
In her free time, Barbara played the piano and was a choir director for Whitley Memorial United Methodist Church in Smithfield. She enjoyed completing her daily word search and crossword puzzles, and loved southern gospel music, especially The Glory Men.
The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m. on Friday, October 7, 2022 at Parrish Funeral Home in Selma, and at other times, the home, 210 Kathy Circle Smithfield. A funeral service will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. on October 8, 2022 in the chapel of Parrish Funeral Home.
In addition to her parents, Barbara is preceded in death by her husband, Tasso P. Lee.
Surviving are her daughters, Fara Lee-Thomas and husband Wayne of Smithfield; Angela Rayburn and husband Richard of Smithfield; sister, Robbinn Mount and husband Herman of Smithfield; grandchildren, Dylan Benson and fiancé Kelly Wood of Smithfield; and Hannah Rayburn of Smithfield;
Flowers are acceptable or memorial donations may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
