Edward Lee “Ed” Hales, age 79, passed away Friday, June 10, 2022 at his home. Born July 20, 1942 in Wayne County he was a son of the late William James and Lizzie Stallings Hales. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Earl Hales and Melvin Hales; and sisters, Etta Marie Hodge and Nettie Hales. Ed enjoyed camping at White Lake with his family, attending tractor pulls, and working on his tractor. He loved fishing at the coast and was an avid Nascar fan. Ed was a member of Riverside Baptist Church in Kenly.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Monday, June 13, 2022 in Riverside Baptist Church in Kenly. Burial will follow in Maplewood Cemetery in Clayton. The family will receive friends from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. Monday just prior to the service at the church.
Surviving are his wife of 57 years, Melba Parrish Hales; sons, James Edward “Eddie” Hales and wife Angie of Selma and Danny Ray Hales and wife Kristi of Kenly; brothers, Jimmy Hales, Charlie Hales and Richard Hales and wife Carol; sister, Barbara Ann Atkinson and husband Harris; and grandsons, Bradley Hales and Jordan Hales.
