James Edwards Carter, 77, passed away at UNC Johnston Health on Wednesday, June 21, 2023. Mr. Carter was born in Lenoir County on September 28, 1945 to the late Jesse Carter and Fannie Louise Burroughs Ruffin. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, James Dwight Carter; grandson, Christopher Dale Sullivan; sisters, Virginia Garner, Retha Hill and Roselinda Roxie Hinson.
Mr. Carter loved camping, fishing and doing mechanic work. He stayed busy attending his children and grandchildren’s ballgames. But, first and foremost, he loved his family. The best gift you could give him was when all his family were together.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Judy Huffman Carter; sons, David Edward Carter (Donna) of Four Oaks, and Brian Dale Carter (Felicia) of Princeton; daughter, LaDonna Carter Sullivan (Charles) of Smithfield; brothers, Doug Carter of Atlantic Beach, Stanley Carter of Mt. Oliver and Michael Carter of Goldsboro; sister, Cindy Price; grandchildren, Monica Sullivan Carter (Jamie), Jennifer Sullivan Erickson (Josh), Jessica Carter Herring (Alex), Taylor Carter Perez (Ryan), Kirsten Carter Beasley (Lex) and Kourtney Carter; great grandchildren, Cody, Hunter, Austin, Colton, Levi, Gunner and Ace.
The family will receive friends from 12:30 pm until 2:00 pm in the chapel of Tee’s Chapel FWB Church at 6439 Brogden Road, Smithfield, NC 27577, on Saturday, June 24, 2023.
The Funeral will be held at 2:00 pm, on Saturday, June 24, 2023 at Tee’s Chapel FWB Church with the Reverend Dennis Pollock officiating.
