John Richard Fail, 85, passed away at Wayne UNC Health Care on Friday, February 3, 2023. He was born in Wayne County on October 31, 1937 to the late Eldra Dixon Fail and Eunice Estelle Summerlin Fail. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Elenor Rae Daniels Fail; a son, Ricky Fail and a brother, Glenn Fail.
Over the years, he operated Fail’s Grocery for 10 years and Rosewood Grill and Garage. He worked at Frema Motors, Gene Taylors and then retired from Deacon Jones in Smithfield. He served his country in the US Army. He enjoyed working on Racing Go Kart engines as well as racing Go Karts, and watching Nascar racing. He loved his family very much and enjoyed spending time with them.
He is survived by daughter, Cindy Fail of Princeton; grandchildren, Rebecca Brown (Scottie) of Princeton and Noah Fail of Princeton; great granddaughter, Abigail and daughter-in-law, Tammie Fail Norris (Trent) of Princeton; brother, Charles (Buddy) Fail (JoAnne) of Princeton; sister, Margie Murray (E. C.) of South Carolina and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm on Monday, February 6, 2023 in the chapel of Casey Funeral Home and Cremations.
The funeral will be held at 7:00 pm on Monday, February 6, 2023 at Casey Funeral Home and Cremations Chapel with the Reverend Ralph Parker officiating. The burial will take place in Hastings Cemetery on Tuesday, February 7, 2023 at 11:00 am.
