    Selma – Lewis George Mullen, age 88, passed away Monday, March 14, 2022 at his home in Selma. He was born in Wake County on January 10, 1934 to the late Rufus George Mullen and Lizzie Mae Lewis Mullen. In addition to his parents, he is also preceded in death by his brother R. G. Mullen and his sister Elizabeth Leggett.

    Lewis is survived by his wife of 62 years, Marian Simon Mullen; son, Robert Mullen and his wife, Michele of Louisburg; and daughter, Teresa Mullen of Knightdale.

    Lewis grew up in Bethel, NC, attended Bethel High School, and entered the U.S. Army in 1953. He proudly served 3 years during the Korean War. After his discharge, he attended DeVry Technical Institute in Chicago, Illinois, where he graduated with a degree in Electronic Engineering.

    He had a lifelong career as an Engineer beginning at WNCT in Greenville, NC, followed by 6 years at General Electric in Lynchburg, Virginia. He moved to Selma in 1967 to work at Sylvania where he made lifelong friendships and created great memories. When the plant closed, he accepted a job at Data General in Clayton and completed his career at Channel Master in Smithfield in 1996.

    Lewis had many hobbies, but his favorite was photography. He enjoyed taking pictures everywhere he went: summer vacations at Smith Mountain Lake in Virginia, beaches, parades, festivals, church, family gatherings, etc. He was a fan of Charles Schultz and his Peanuts characters. He created a display of Charlie Brown and his friends that stood in his yard every Christmas season for 50 years which brought joy to the entire community.

    In celebration of his life, the family will receive visitors at Parrish Funeral Home on Thursday March 17, 2022 from 6 PM to 8 PM, with a prayer service at 7 PM. A funeral mass will be on Friday, March 18, 2022 at 11 AM at Saint Ann Catholic Church in Clayton. Burial will follow the service at Selma Memorial Gardens followed by lunch at Saint Ann Parish Center at 1:30 PM.
