    Merritt, NC: Mr. Roy Lee Lassiter, age 84, of Bay River Shores Road passed away on Wednesday, April 26, 2023 at Betsy Johnson Hospital in Dunn, surrounded by his loving family. There will be no formal service at this time but the family will receive friends at the home of Dena and Danny Norris at 1255 Benson Hardee Rd. Benson, NC 27504 on Friday, April 28, 2023 from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM.

    Mr. Lassiter was born on December 28, 1938 to the late Ralph and Mattie Johnson Lassiter. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Sylvia Faye Lassiter; sons, Chris Allen and Mark Allen; grandsons, Shane Norris and Scott Blackmon; brothers, Norman Lassiter and Joe Lassiter; sisters, Dorothy Clayton, Clara Kaylor, Grace Canaday, and Matilda Whitlock; and son-in-law, Donnie Brady.

    Prior to retirement he worked in sheet metal. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, great great grandfather, and friend. He loved to cook for his friends and family, his hobbies were fishing and golfing, and entertained with his wit, wisdom, and life experiences. The Bay River community was his favorite place to be where the residents referred to him as “The Mayor of Bay River”.

    Survivors include his wife of 31 years, Margie Lassiter; children, Teresa Brady, Tony Allen and wife, Kim, Carl Hatcher and wife, Robbin, Gayle Polk and husband, Harold, and Susan Fasnacht and husband, Bob; daughters-in-law, Carol Allen and Sandy Allen; grandchildren, Dena Norris and husband, Danny, Shannon Holland and husband, Steven, Shannon O’Shea and husband, Ryan, Sarah Zarley and husband, Alex, Grace Hatcher, Jordan Polk and wife, Casey, Benjamin Polk and wife, Kate, Matthew Polk and fiancé, Jordan, Joshua Fasnacht, Madelyn Fasnacht, Jessica Stanley, and Michael Lee and wife, Erin; 26 great grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren; special nieces, Aurelia Clayton, Kim Smith, and Pam Stone; his Bay River family; special friend, Jerry Beasley; and several other nieces and nephews.
