Royie V Massengill

Royie V. Massengill, born September 24, 1929, passed away peacefully on December 9, 2025, at the age of 96. He was the son of the late Addie and Less Massengill of Four Oaks, North Carolina. Preceded in death was his beloved wife Reba Massengill.
Royie proudly served his country in the United States Army at Fort Sill, Oklahoma. After his service, he began a lifelong career in the car business. He started in 1957 at The Ford Company in Greensboro, then moved to Brack Wilson Ford Company in Smithfield in 1962. In 1969, he opened Royie’s Used Car and Royie’s Restaurant in Four Oaks. By 1970, he expanded Royie’s Used Cars to Benson and was known for integrity, honesty, and the handshake that sealed every deal.
A devoted community member, Royie was a founding member of the Four Oaks Rescue Squad. His faith guided his life, and he remained involved in church wherever he lived—First Baptist Church in Greensboro, Sharon Baptist Church in Smithfield, and from 1967 to the present, Lee’s Chapel Advent Christian Church. At Lee’s Chapel, he served on many committees and chaired the Building Committee, where he was instrumental in constructing the new church and fellowship hall. His dedication to service, faith, and his church family was unwavering.
Royie believed deeply in the American Dream. With grit, determination, and a willingness to do whatever was needed, he built a life and a legacy from the ground up. He never met a stranger, and his handshake was as solid as his word. Everything he did was to provide for the family he cherished.
Royie was married to Reba Moore Massengill for nearly 50 years, and together they raised four daughters—Debbie, Pam, Terry, and Sherry—instilling in them the values of faith, hard work, and integrity. In 2003, Royie married Pauline Radford. They were blessed to be together for 23 years and he loved Pauline’s family as his very own. Their years together were filled with companionship, dancing, laughter, and great love.
Royie enjoyed life to the fullest. He loved church activities, family gatherings, dancing, travel, beach trips and never turned down a fun card game. These simple joys brought him great happiness and created memories treasured by family and friends.
Royie is survived by his wife, Pauline Radford Massengill; his daughters Debbie Daughtry (husband, Bobby, deceased), Pam Tripp (Danny Paul Tripp), Terry Dale (Wayne Dale), and Sherry Jackson (Mike Jackson); his grandchildren Shelley Fussell (Jason), Blake Daughtry, Jennifer Williams (Warren), Johnathan Tripp (Kaylan), Ellen Maxey (Wade), Joshua Dale, Davis Dale (Kathy), Heather Maura (Tim), and Reid Jackson (Lizzie); and his great-grandchildren Hunter Ann and Parker Fussell, Wesley Williams, Hope and Fischer Maxey, Addie and Jack Maura.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, December 11 at 1:00 p.m. at Lee’s Chapel Advent Christian Church, located at 4154 NC-96 Hwy, Four Oaks, NC 27524.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Lee’s Chapel Advent Christian Church Building Fund.
Dunn Funeral Home is honored to serve the family of Royie V Massengill.
