Selma – Thomas Edison Hines, age 91, passed away peacefully on Monday, June 12, 2023, in his home. The youngest of twelve children, born to Clarence Becton Hines and Effie Aycock Hines, he is survived by one sister.
Tom was a member of Princeton Baptist Church. He proudly served his country in the United States Army. His tenacity and perseverance were surpassed only by his love for his beloved late wife, Patsy Benson Hines and his family. Tom was a third-generation farmer, zealous in his love for God’s land and humble pride in the life he built for himself and his family. He enjoyed golf, NASCAR, playing cards with friends and above all, spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. His face would light up and his eyes would sparkle in their presence. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. In the words of his late wife, Tom was special.
The family will hold a private graveside service at Aycock Family Cemetery. They will receive friends at his home on Wednesday, June 14, 2023, from 5:00-7:00 p.m. 2360 Bizzell Grove Church Rd, Selma, NC, 27576.
He is survived by his daughter, Terri Hines Stutts and husband Keith of Wilson; son, James “Jamey” Thomas Hines and wife Sylvia of Selma, sister, Murl Brown of Selma; grandchildren, Callie Stutts Gill (Justin), Cullen Benson Stutts (Amy), Caroline Hines Barefoot (Jared), Caitlyn Grey Hines (Matthew Corbett), and Chandler Lela Hines; great grandchildren, Elliott Barefoot, Maxton Corbett, Emerson Barefoot, Rowan Stutts, Charlotte Gill and Olivia Gill; sister-in-law and brother-in-law Vicki and Jim Lassiter and numerous beloved nieces and nephews.
The family would like to offer a special thanks to his devoted caretakers including; Lisa Sullivan, Megan Jones, Camey Scott and Samantha Bissett. All of whom became dear companions.
